The Havapoo, a relatively new hybrid in the dog world, is a cross between a Havanese and Miniature Poodle. This small, fluffy pup – also known as a “PooVanese”-is loved for its gentle and friendly demeanor. More and more families and elderly couples in the U.S. are choosing Havapoos as a family pet because they are intelligent, easy to train, and impossibly adorable.
Size & Care
This breed is small, ranging from 9-12 inches tall and 7-15 pounds. Their mid-length coat can be curly or wavy and varied in color. Most Havapoos are hypoallergenic and don’t shed (great news for your home and those with allergies!), but they do need to be brushed weekly to maintain a shiny, healthy coat.
- Other ways to properly care for a Havapoo:
- Trim or clip down their coat at least twice a year
- Shampoo them at least once a month (make sure to dry inside their ears after)
- Brush their teeth regularly
- Keep nails trimmed
- Look out for stray hairs in the eyes or ears that could cause infections
Character & Temperament
If you’re in the market for an intelligent and sociable dog, Havapoos are for you. They coexist well with children and other dogs and they make a pleasant playmate. Their moderate energy level, matched with their size, makes them great for an apartment setting as long as they are stimulated with playtime and have the opportunity for daily exercise. Curious and eager to learn, Havapoos take quickly to potty and obedience training and they respond positively to verbal praise and encouragement.
